there’s a new feature that i recently finished implementing.

if i’m not at home, there is now a field called “location”, which will give you the name of the place of where i’m currently staying, and google-maps* and mapquest views of that exact location.
you might have to zoom out at google-maps, though…

after contemplating for a long time, anton and i decided to go see what it’s all about.
last saturday, several of innsbruck’s universities and scientific centers put on a collective open day night, called lange nacht der forschung.

while the whole event was clearly targeted at laypersons, i still thought it was nice. two shuttle bus routes through innsbruck were frequented every 15 minutes or so, there was free food & drinks near many stations, and the presentations were quite interesting (although we already knew much of what was said there).
i especially liked the topic of nano technology, with interesting showcase items like ferrofluids (wikipedia: [de], [en]).

we could also take a glance at a quantum computer, watch some 3D-visualizations (using polarizing glasses and all that) in an astronomy presentation, and had our fun with a thermographic camera.
unfortunately, there was not enough time to attend the guided tour through a production facility for hearing-aid implants.

i never got to post this *here*, but there it is now:

in the last few months, every now and then i found some time to play with my JG-RC2 and i’m really content.

the final firmware isn’t available yet, but i’m fine with the preliminary one, so far. (that’s how i got it in the first place – the final product version is not available, so i ordered the beta-version. but only the firmware will be different in the final version – and it’s upgradeable.)

cindy sent me the link to this cool website: www.gigapxl.org.
they take pictures on a very large film format and scan them afterwards. they’re currently getting about 4 gigapixels out of this, with outstanding pictures to present in their galleries. the level of detail is astonishing!

i know i shoudln’t be surprised, because it *is* a small world, but i was: in the travelogue, i found a mention of adam tow, who is a friend of eric cheng.
so basically, i know the gigapxl team members through a friend of a friend :razz:

some time ago, my internet provider inode published this press release on their website:

the fun part about this is the typo in the last sentence, that makes it say “of course, the package also includes email addresses, webspace, viruses and spam protection”.

but besides – i think it would be really cool to have a 12Mbit dsl line at home!

 
i’m really happy to be a customer of inode – they offer good and reliable* service to a competitive price.
* not like some webspace provider that won’t allow the word “E-Mail” to pass their security filter, so i have to replace the “M” with M
