nach nudeln und salat, und essensblog ging am 1. juni unsere fisch-seite online. hier behält das hohe tribunal den überblick, und die rezepte stehen auf schriftrollen. :)

i present to you our newest online project: www.fischgericht.at is going to be our recipe archive for all things with fish.
the design is a pun on the german word for fish dish. the second part of the word, “gericht” means either “dish” or “court of justice”, depending on context.
all the comics were hand-drawn by my good friend (and extremely talented drawer, even though she’ll say that i’m exaggerating) chiara de cesare.

everybody knows that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but i think many beholders will agree to call these critters what scientists refer to as …”pretty ugly”. ;)
here’s a list of the ugliest and/or creepiest little creatures i’ve come across.

in german:
schönheit liegt bekanntermaßen im auge des betrachters, aber ich denke, dass so mancher betrachter diese tierchen für das hält, was wissenschafter als “ziemlich hässlich” bezeichnen würden. ;)
es folgt eine liste der hässlichsten/eigenartigsten kreaturen, die mir bisher untergekommen sind.

sieht so aus als ob der liebe berthold wieder einmal ein paar leute gratis in sein unglaubliches geheimnis einweihen will: 107 aufrufe meines blog-eintrags allein heute!

update: 120 aufrufe am 02.05., 62 weitere am 03.05. ich beginne zu zweifeln, dass nur 7 menschen diesen brief erhalten haben. ;)

looks like good old berthold wants to tell his super-duper-secret to a few individuals again: 107 views of my blog post, and that’s just today!

update: 120 views on may 2, and 62 more on may 3. i’m starting to doubt that only 7 chosen ones in austria received that letter (that’s what the letter said).

berthold von graatz sent me a letter earlier this year, telling me i can win the lottery as often as i like, become unbelievably rich, happy, healthy, live in the house i’ve always wanted AND find the love of my life, if i just respond to his letter and get some “free” information.
the next step, according to other bloggers on the internet, is another letter and a compulsory 49 euro “contribution towards expenses”.

friends of ours have recently started to excavate parts of their frontyard in order to make space for a private parking area. in the process, they found a bunch of bones, about 1.5 meters below the original ground level.
archaeologists were called to the place, and they started digging a little deeper.
they found the remains of several individuals, including one child.

knowing that i’m always interested in that kind of stuff, martina called me and invited me to “come have a look”.
i went there last week, and chatted with her and the archaeologists, who told me that they hadn’t found any artefacts to clearly date the site, but it might have been as old as 600 years.

in the meantime, they found a little more: a stonewalled vault of a 10-year-old girl complete with grave goods such as bronze ear rings, a necklace and a glass bead bracelet. these artefacts date back to the 6th or 7th century a.d.
the newspaper stated that “this discovery is also a highlight in the archaeologists’ careers.”

i was there, and took some pictures (what else). :)

this album also features a juxtaposition of 5 fruits of different species of maple (acer sp.) that can be found where i live: sycamore maple (acer pseudoplatanus), norway maple (acer platanoides), box elder (acer negundo), field maple (acer campestre) and tatarian maple (acer tataricum).

teil zwei meiner zweige- und knospenfotos ist hier: holzige pflanzen mit gegenständiger beblätterung.
dieses album beinhaltet ausserdem eine gegenüberstellung von früchten von 5 ahorn-arten (acer sp.) die hierzulande wachsen: berg-ahorn (acer pseudoplatanus), spitz-ahorn (acer platanoides), eschen-ahorn (acer negundo), feld-ahorn (acer campestre) und tatarischer steppen-ahorn (acer tataricum).

this semester, i was in a botanical class that’s concerned with ligneous plants and recognizing them only through their habitus and buds.
i’ve assembled some of the photos from this course, most which were taken under pressure of time. they have only been hastily photoshopped, so please excuse the quality and varying backgrounds.

along with all the species listed, i’ve included some of the most striking characteristics.

dieses semester belegte ich unter anderem ein botanisches praktikum zum bestimmen von gehölzpflanzen anhand von habitus und knospen.
hier sind einige der fotos zusammengestellt. die meisten wurden unter zeitdruck gemacht und sind nur flüchtig nachbearbeitet – ich bitte daher, die qualität und tw. wechselnden hintergründe zu entschuldigen.

zu jeder art sind ausserdem einige der auffallendsten merkmale genannt.
