i just stumbled across this headline in an agricultural magazine (for work):
another village that will never have a song written about it.
(referring to that “whose line is it anyway”-episode)
noted down yesterday, 2005-03-15 16:45:
minor linguistic challenges: when asked if i knew the ticket-fee for a trainride, i responded “i don’t know, i never take the *bus*.”
later, when i got home, i said “and for *postage*, i paid …” (i was, of course, referring to my trainride again)…
three days ago, there has been a dramatic rise in outdoor temperatures.
and it seems like my general mood just went along.
i’ve come from ssdd to “i can see clearly now” within just one day.
on my recent dogwalks (is that a real english word?), i’ve even encountered a very sun-exposed spot in the forest where some meadow saffrons (colchicum autumnale) [at least that's what i think that is] were blooming already, on an area of merely 1 m2 (~10 square feet)!
there are some springlike photos waiting to be posted, but it’ll take me another two or three days…
besides, just in case you ever wondered: no, dragonflies can’t sting. they can bite but won’t hurt anybody with skin (as opposed to an exo-sceleton). and they don’t have any toxins either.
[lyrics quote of the moment]
i can see clearly now, the rain is gone
i can see all obstacles in my way
gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
it’s gonna be a bright, bright and sunshiny day
i think i can make it now, the pain is gone
all of the bad feelings have disappeared
here is the rainbow i’ve been prayin’ for
it’s gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiny day
jimmy cliff – i can see clearly now
i think i’m slowly getting the hang of making time-lapse videos.
there’s just so many variables to consider: once you’ve made sure there are no “tiny unwanted details” (a chimney-top, reflections when photographing through a window, …) in your picture, you need to set the shutter speed (especially in overnight projects) estimate the speed of the motive (which is typically very slow, but still), the length of the movie you want to get, … and you get the wanted interval.
it doesn’t really sound that bad, but if you overlook one tiny thing, hours of efforts are wasted and the whole video is cruft.
(just like in my previous set of little projects, which i didn’t publish here…)
on the other hand, if you want it to be perfect, the whole thing is over already – there are no more clouds, or it’s too late to have lots of cars on the street you’re recording, …
(wow, there’s more content in brackets than outside…)
the below file is in .avi-format, you’ll need the latest xvid-codec to play-back. i recommend using ffdshow (direct link) to view them correctly.
see “more” / “blah blah” for video details.

i just added my coordinates to this blog’s metadata. so now, if you click here, you’ll find my neighbors in meatspace. theoretically, at least.
because it seems like my only real-world neighbors are booking-agents.
well, that’s austria.
speaking of which – this satellite image shows where i live: overview – detail
wow. we’re really just a tiny nest of yodelers in leather trousers
i also liked these images: huge overview, the alps
i’m two weeks late, but still…
on february 25th we had a little class reunion in one of the coziest cafés of innsbruck – mieze schindler.![]()
many friends came, and some who weren’t really invited (who the hell told lorenz? i thought he was on vacation, anyway…).
our waitress, “nette notburga” (nice notburga), was very kind and patient. she even brought me a spoon when i asked for one to crush the slice of lemon that i ordered with my coke. LOL
i should probably stop harassing waiters…
it was really nice seeing those again who came, and it’s a pity that some didn’t/couldn’t come. after all, it was a really funny evening – we should definitely repeat that sometime soon!
