memo to self: starting to work on a presentation less than 24 hours before i’m supposed to present it is not optimal.
on the other hand, it worked out …which means my subconcsiousness will probably file this as a success and try to further reduce time and effort, next time.
i’m involved with many things in university, so a lot of professors know who i am. to be honest, i don’t even know who some of them are.
recently, there have been several situations like these1:
a professor i don’t know says something about the degree course scheme, but adds that she’s not certain about it (and in fact, she’s wrong). me: erm, actually it goes like this: … prof: oh, thank you. (to all:) mr. nolf here just told me that …
me: hi! my name is markus nolf. i signed up for your class, and i have a question regarding … professor: oh right, i saw your name on the list. (among the 50+ others who signed up!)
- professor m. asks a question
- nobody answers
- professor m. asks me
here’s one of the downsides of being well-known to your lecturers: in class, whenever nobody answers a “question to crowd”, they tend to ask somebody directly. and usually it’s somebody they can address by name…
and it’s getting kinda freaky, considering that there are ~170 new biology students per year [↩]
it seems like there’s NOTHING interesting going on in the world – which means there is once more enough space in the news for the classic killer asteroid article (german only)…
we’re not even in the summer slump yet!
i felt “funny” yesterday, and soon traced the feeling to an unusually high heartbeat rate.
when i put on a pulse monitor, i saw that i had a resting pulse rate of 120.
decided to keep an eye on that, and the readings were quite …entertaining, actually:
in intervalls of about 20 seconds, my pulse went something like this (not a lot of change in activity): 120 – 100 – 80 – 120 – 90 – 110 – 100 – …
went out to enjoy a korean dinner1 at nara2 with some of those i had known for some time, before i actually met them: barbara, armin, dave and sebastian.
it’s refreshing to just order some things3 and see what they taste like4.
— 1 dinner means jeong siksa in korean, …at least that’s what it said on the web. 2 apparently the only korean restaurant in innsbruck. 3 well, not completely. i made sure there were no gastropods involved. :-) 4 ok, i think that’s plenty of footnotes now…
just a few days later, i went tobogganing* with a few members of the cantus borg ensemble.
* love that word!
fabian: i don’t like that soup’s texture. it feels like i’m eating soap foam. me: i don’t think i’ve eaten soap foam often enough to make such a statement.
