those of you who are using a german keyboard-layout may have already noticed it – some stuff has changed.

the startpage is now determining what language to use, according to your keyboard-settings, and so certain things can be seen in german as well.
i do not intend to run a completely bilingual website, because it’s a LOT of work to do, but there are some ways to make it easier for non-english-speaking people.

most importantly, the website is using german photo-titles now (if available), in the gallery as well as in the single-picture-window. you can switch languages by clicking [de] or [en] left to the title.
i’ll probably apply that system to the session-titles too, within the next days. so far, you can’t switch to and fro in the gallery-view – i’m working on it.

something else i did to the galleries: protected images are now marked with a [p]. if you’re looking at the german version of the gallery, the [e] indicates that only an english title is available.

the blog will remain mainly in english – excluding this post and maybe a few exceptions…
one way to still be able to read it in german would be google’s translation service, but it’s not very accurate.

the german word “rorate” is maybe best described by “early-in-the-morning-christmas-time-mass “.
some friends and i decided to sing at one of those, which turned out to be the last one – just 2 hours ago.
luckily i got (almost) well again in time!

the church wasn’t lit at all, the only source of light were some candles, and every participant got one, too. up in the gallery we had some candles and a weak bulb for the organ. i didn’t want to use flash for the photos, so i stuck with my sony’s nightshot-mode for most of them. i didn’t take many pictures, anyway.

musically, i think it went really well. it wasn’t perfect, but a good result regarding the amount of rehearsals we could arrange and the time of performance: 6 am.
i LOVE to sing what is called “alpine christmas-songs” – traditional and almost unknown local christmas songs from some of tyrol’s valleys.
finally a chance to sing in a 6-voice male ensemble.

here’s one of the alpine christmas-songs for you:

so…

i’ve been really ill for the past days, starting to feel better now.
since i can concentrate again, i’ve decided to upload some photos from late november. the “laptop-on-belly-way” is really nice and sparing, even if you’re sick!

where the hell did all the colours go?
all you can see now is white and grey, and some brown if you’re lucky… :???:

anyway, here are the first two updates:

[view photos: piano special]

“piano special” was a recital organized by our music school. i went there to listen/take pictures of my brother playing the double bass (accompanying a little pianist with the rest of the young chamber orchestra), but i met some friends there, too…

more to come!

something’s wrong with handing on the variables and that’s screwing my whole website up.

i know that. no idea how to fix it, since i haven’t done anything.

just hang in there!

***edit***

it was soo nice to be a student again for some hours! i enjoyed taking that tesdt (cryptogam systematics and evolution), just so i would be in university again…

here’s what’s new …old:
in a further attempt to catch up with the past – i know, the seattle/wa pictures are still missing here – i decided to publish my graduation paper (“fachbereichsarbeit”) for computer science.
the title is “Die TCP/IP-Protocolsuite”.
i originally wanted to write it in english, because in computer science every second word is english already and the german translations are somewhat stupid. but unfortunately there were some problems (bureaucratic stuff, graduation in austria, a certain english teacher, …) in the way of that.

our family is kinda …weird!
just a minute ago, my parents realized (after i slightly pointed it out) that they had been watching tv with the audio channel for blind people. for half a year.
they just didn’t think about having more than one audio channel in digital tv.
my dad said that he had noted more and more movies had commentator-voices saying everything non-verbal that happened. “it’s for all the blind people!”

i couldn’t stop laughing!
so eventually, i switched it back to normal audio…

another of today’s anectodes:
my grandma came over today. when my dad said he had heard that carrots have very positive effects on one’s eyesight, she said “well sure, or have you ever seen a monkey with glasses?”
i’ve known that joke since i can remember, and it is still funny in certain situations. it’s just that MONKEYs like BANANAs very much, not carrots.
(well, at least in the jokes and tv-shows they do)
