for a short time, it is now possible to see a live kakapo (strigops habroptilus), without spending 14 days volunteering on an uninhabited island (which is far greater than it sounds! but i’ll get to that, in time).
according to officials, there have already been bookings from all around the world.
the price is “80 NZD for an evening boat trip to ulva island [G] to view the bird” – which is far less than i would expect for such a unique chance.
sirocco hasn’t made any attempts to boom this year, so he got a chance to become the current star among the 86 kakapo that remain on earth.
